Meet the captain and his boat crew that you may see during your adventure with How Boat This: River Tours and Lobster Bar! Learn about us here.
My passion for the water began at the young age of 14 when I got my first fishing job: tuna fishing. I landed my first tuna that year weighing 1195 pounds, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I continued tuna fishing in the summers for many years to come. After much hard work and determination, I bought my first fishing fleet in 1990 at the age of 24. Finally getting the chance to be a captain, I had the opportunity to fish lobster, herring, crab, and blue-fin tuna with some devoted hired hands over the years. Throughout this time, I have accumulated many valuable stories that I hold dear to my heart. Some good, some bad, and some learning experiences that I’ve taken with me through life.
To make ends meet, I took a job in Alberta starting in 2005, working west in the winter and fishing in the summer. In 2012, I sadly had to leave fishing for health reasons. Continuing to work out west was not filling my passion for the sea. I missed the water, missed my family, and missed life on Prince Edward Island. This encouraged me to turn my passion into a business because the sea kept calling me back.
In 2004, I married the best catch of my life, Michelle, where I was blessed with a lovely bonus daughter, Emma. Later on, in 2007, we completed our crew with the arrival of Keldan. We all share a passion for the water and can’t wait to share our passion with you. Come aboard How Boat This, and you’ll enjoy the sea just as much as we do!
Being around water my whole life, there was no way I could leave the seaside. My father had been a fisherman since the age of 12 and his passion for the water continued when he decided to settle down and start a family. I remember my mother fishing with him while I was in school and every Saturday, my brothers and I were out to sea with our parents. On school days, we would let our parents know we were getting ready for school communicating over the VHF radio from the house. My oldest brother joined my father at sea and the pair still fish together to this day. Choosing a different career path, I have worked at CIBC for the past 18 years. I have always enjoyed being on the water and am excited to experience this business endeavour as a family!
In the summer, you will most likely find me enjoying a sail or a swim. There is nothing that makes me happier than being on the water. The highlight of each summer for me is spending time on the boat with my family and friends. Although I have never fished, I value the fishing community I grew up in and will always have a soft spot in my heart for Murray River and Murray Harbour. I am currently working on a degree in Nursing to become a registered nurse. Over the years, my favourite memories were at sea and I can’t wait for that to continue with this new business we are taking on as a family!
I am excited to help out this summer because I like being on the water. My favourite thing to do is to spend time with my family on our boat. While on the boat, I like to bring my friends to go swimming and tubing. I like to sail the boat, too! I am a grade 6 French immersion student and I like soccer and hockey.
